Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

I hope you will have a wonderful holiday season (if you celebrate christmas). It has been snowing like crazy here in Finland. I was just out making some snowlanterns and shoveling snow. I love this time of the year! I also know that I am going to be very happy with the gifts I am going to get. How do I know that? Well, I bought myself something I really wanted. Something that will bring me joy for the whole year of 2010. What is it? A James Dean calendar. I love those classical black/white or sepia “old filmstar style” photographs.

In Finland christmas eve (that is the 24th) is the main christmas day. On the evening of the 24th santa will come and give us our little gifts. Or, as it is a custom in our family, he’ll just leave a present bag at the door. He’s such a busy man ;)

Questions for you:
-do you have any christmas traditions?
-do you like snow?

It’s getting chilly

School started on monday after a long and wonderful summer. Currently I do not have any lectures on monday and friday which makes the weekends more enjoyable. Still, I do have to stop by at school on those days. If some days are easy, then some days are super hard – on tuesdays I have 4 lectures, meaning 8 hours. As far as a normal university day goes, that is a lot. The average is 2 lectures (4 hours) per day. Also throw in workdays to that mess and it’ll add up to no free time on certain days of the week. But that has been my life for the past 2 years. I had forgotten all about the stress, pressure and lack of “me” time. On the other hand it is wonderful to walk in the crispy autumn weather, come home at night, light up some candles and watch gossip girl on dvd to charge myself for the upcoming day.

September is a fun month. However, October is a boring one. Nothing happens in October! None of my friends have birthdays in October. Yes, Halloween is in October but by then it is almost November. And we all know that November and December are the true party months with all those office and school christmas parties and shopping(!)

I have already started planning on what to get for christmas (for friends and family).
