The Positive Week

The year has changed. And although 2012 is will be wonderful – because it’s really up to me to make it so, isn’t it – I’ve been sort of down lately. I’ve got this coping method for it though. It’s that if I can find just a single “sign from the universe” per day that “life is good afterall”, then I can manage. It’s that sort of thing that – if you’re sitting on a bus (feeling slightly sad maybe?) and watching the cars go by and you see a car with the license plate being something like “LUV” or “HEY” whatever “word” that just hits you. I like to think that as a sign of.. hey, everything’s cool, right. So it’s the little things that you should be aware of – to look for.

Stop, listen, see! So here’s how my last week was “universe” wise:

Monday January 2nd: The guy at the bank was really helpful & sweet to me.
Tuesday January 3rd: Was waiting for a bus and saw a young guy help out an old lady who was having a hard time getting on the bus (with all the ice & snow being so slippery on the street). Made me smile.
Wednesday January 4th: Went to get a “take-away” salad and the queue at the café was very long. However, I got served right as I stepped into the queue and the waitress even opened up a 2nd cash register just so I could pay my salad right away and be off my way. Usually I’ve had to wait until the “normal” queue is done so I can pay my take-away meal. Win!
Thursday January 5th: Woke up when a friend texted me “Come out for a jog?!” – and of course I went.
Friday January 6th: Caught up with the one that went away.
Saturday January 7th: Went to play laser tag with a group of friends. And a dinner. And a movie.
Sunday January 8th: Begun The Jillian Michaels’ “30 Day Shred” challenge.

Other than that. My days go by with me writing my masters thesis, exercising, planning my trip to Japan (and adventure to Australia) and… that’s about it! In less than 2 months I’ll be in Japan! In a few months I’ll be more fit! In 6 months I’ll be ready with my thesis and my Aussie-plans! And you know what. Today, I’m much happier than I was on monday when I begun “writing” this blog entry. So my “method” of trying to be positive worked. Though, of course – tomorrow is a new day and it might be good or bad. We’ll see. But I’ll try to find something positive in it.

Did you make any new year’s resolutions?

  1. Your post made me smile. :)

No, I didn’t make any resolutions.

  2. Georgina says:

I’m really glad to hear you’re keeping positive, Shiri! I’ve been doing this for about three months now, keeping positive and each day writing down the little things that make me smile. Even if I manage to do something, or someone is nice to me. I post it all on my other blog though, because they’re just short, small posts. It’s amazing how much of a difference it can make to your outlook.

I’m glad you were able to catch up with that friend. :) Have a wonderful week!

There’s nothing better in life than being positive, I guess. XD It’s a good thing that you’ve tried to be positive, and it seems that you had a lovely week. I agree with you – 2012 will be wonderful if we make it so. :)

Oh Japan! :D I want to visit it so badly.

  4. Sage says:

Oooh, where in Australia will you be going? Georgina and myself are from Australia, how amazing is that. I hope you have a fabulous time.

  5. chazz says:

i’m glad you’re being positive!! :D it sounds like you’re having some amazing plans ahead of you, japan and australia sound at least amazing in my ears!!

i have been writing a few new year’s resolutions, but i don’t have too high expectations as i never managed to complete my list of resolutions last year though i hope to do it better this year! :D

  7. Good luck with the 30 Day Shred, I’ve done it before and it toned my body quite well. I’m actually working on Jillian Michaels’s new Ripped in 30 which is just as awesome as the 30 Day Shred!

    More power to us!

  8. Ashleenah says:

I”m glad to hear you’re being positive & purposefully looking out for positive things each day.

Some of my NYR are to become more positive, to love myself, to become happy with myself & such things like that. :)

  9. Cat says:

I think it’s awesome that you find something positive each day :) It’s a good way to live life!

Good luck with your thesis and trip planning! That’s so exciting that you’re visiting both Japan and Australia. Those are 2 places I’d really like to visit too.

I have a couple resolutions, to clean up my house and to adjust my sleep schedule. The sleep schedule has been like a never ending battle to me too, but I’m hoping to “fix” it this year :) I hope you continue having a great 2012!

  10. Misaki says:

That’s pretty awesome that you find something positive each day :) Perspective really does change the way you live your life~

Oh! You’re going to Australia?! Hahahaha come visit me :) How long are you staying for?

  11. Christa says:

Sometimes I do what you’re doing. Just having a down day then sees something that brings your hopes up. It’s been happening a lot lately. Mostly in the form of a bird that’s been hanging around one of my bedroom windows.

I hope you enjoy Japan, I’m hoping to visit within the new couple years.

And I never make new year’s resolutions.

  12. Dipika says:

Happy belated new year! I hope all of use can make 2012 a better year. I love looking out for those kind of little things…that make me smile and make my day :D

I absolutely love your universe-wise so far! Planning your trip to Japan? AWESOME! I want to hear everything about your trip later XD. Hope you can stay happy and positive everyday ^__^

I don’t really make new year resolutions but I am going to start eating healthy whenever possible…and try to finish up on my gaming backlog lol.

  13. Jenny Aster says:

I think that is the singularly, best idea I have heard all week: a simple log of a good thing a day. I might nab your idea, with your permission, and record a couple myself to make me feel better when I’m feeling a bit under the weather. It’s just reassuring to know that at least one good thing does happen each day, as long as I can convince myself to get out of bed.

Japan and Australia?! Drop the master’s thesis and jet off now! That’s really awesome and I’m very, very jealous.

I never really make new year’s resolutions. I find that the allure of a new year really has gone for me, not in a depressing sort of way, just in a very practical, “January 1 is just a continuation of life and it comes after December the 31st” sort of way.

  14. Cami says:

I’m glad you are looking for positive things and seeing them! I must only notice the ones in my life once in awhile. I should look harder because I’m sure that would also cheer me up when I’m down.

They say exercising makes you feel good about yourself so I hope you keep it up. :)
Your writing your Master’s thesis? I can’t wait till I’m at the point in my degree. I’m just about to start it.
How exciting! I want to go to Japan one day.
I hope tomorrow will be good for you. :) …and every day after that.

I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolutions but I’m finding myself more and more resolved to be cheerful and take to lashing out less.

Thanks! I’m glad you liked my layout. I’m so happy every time some one says that. :)

  15. Meredith says:

Life really is a lot better when you’re positive :) How you choose to view things really makes a lot of a difference, so we might as well just enjoy life!

  16. Danielle says:

I love your theme! So beautiful! I haven’t made any resolutions.

  17. Risa says:

I’m glad your 2012 is going great :) I think making a list of good things that happened each day is a good idea. I usually think of something that made me smile every night before I go to bed, it seems to work really nicely.

I love Japan!!I went in Dec 2010-Jan 2011, you’ll love it. It’s such a gorgeous country and the people are amazing. I want to live my life there once I’m done with school!!

I hope 2012 brings you everything you want! I have Jillian Michaels dvd, I forgot the name, she’s rough!! lol but you’ll see results, good luck with that as well.

My new years resolutions? Just to take better care of myself(be more feminine), work harder and smile more :)

  18. Caity says:

Looks like your year has been eventful so far. I love your attitude toward the new year. I am very optimistic about this year too.

I have done the 30DS and I have to be honest it surprised me with how decent it was. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was! Good luck with it! I hope 2012 keeps treating you well.

  19. Nancy says:

It’s always up to you to make your year worth lived. But it doesn’t happen over night. It happens during time. It seems like you had some busy days! You’re going out every day and it sounds like super fun! I hope you’ll have fun in Japan when you go in a couple of months!

I don’t really make New Years resolution. I make things happen without planning it :P

    Take care!

  20. Becca says:

It always seems to be the little bitty things that make you happy. Like a random person remembering something that you like or, like you said, a license plate with something encouraging. Just the little things. :)

It seems like 2012 is going to be an awesome year for you–with Japan and Australia and getting into shape! I”m looking forward to exercising a bit more this year, but unfortunately no world traveling for me. :3

I just made a couple of simple resolutions: to read more, to keep writing, and to remember what’s important. :)

  21. anne says:

I saw Taylor Swift’s Wonderstruck at Sephora a few weeks ago and thought of your previous blog post :) The perfume smelled good!

Japan has been on my list of places to go for awhile now, so I’m thoroughly excited for you! Please, please take lots of pictures and tell us all about your visit there! I cannot wait for your Japan post! :D

I’m glad you’re determined to make 2012 a great year! I like your technique about always just looking for the little signs from the universe. I’ve been a little bummed lately, so reading your post is very timely for me. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I’ll be looking for positive signs from the universe as well! Thanks! :)

  22. Zan says:

It sounds like you had an awesome week. So, yay~ I know what it’s like feeling like you’re in those slums, too. I always say, “The universe hates me,” but it’s all you, really. I’m glad you know that, because it took me ages to find out. But whenever I wake up with a positive outlook, I always have better days.

And, if the world ends, let’s at least make 2012 an awesome last year. ^^

  23. Minna says:

I did not make any resolutions but I’m trying to think of a sign I got today. Hmmmm! Maybe when I got a message from a person I don’t really know saying “Breathe and everything will be okay!”. That made me a bit more cheerful.

Now, what’s with Aussie here? If you need any help with Sydney, well, come to me ;-)
