A Change is Gonna Come…

The winds of change are blowing. Seems like everything is happening at once. As usual, big changes in your life don’t usually come alone. As I’ve written before, I graduated with a bachelors degree in computer science. This, however, does not mean the end of school for me. In Finland it is more common to continue for your masters degree in this stage than to move onto the work life. I’ve also tried to search for an appartment, to buy not to rent. But I realized that in this stage, I don’t have a full time job yet, I should settle for something less. So I am throwing my money away for rent. Yes, I’m moving out from my parents’ house next month. The new rental flat is actually very familiar to me. One of my closest friends is currently living there, and moving out to live together with her boyfriend. The flat is also relatively close to my parents’ house so it won’t be a huge change of scenery for me. The bus routes to work and school are also much better than from my parents’ house.

That’s that. Going up on the educational level and also going up in the ‘adult’ status – moving out on my own. As if this wasn’t enough. I see a light in my life. A light that I’ve wished and hoped for for some time now. Something or someone. And I’m probably jinxing it just by mentioning this here. I guess it’ll be interesting to know where this is heading..if anywhere. Or at least enjoy the ride.

Nope, life’s certainly not boring right now. It’s actually a little bit stressful. There is new winds blowing in many areas of life – work, education, personal life… I can handle stress pretty good. Because if one area goes bad (for example failing a class at Uni) then I have other areas of life that are going well. Right now, every puzzle of the game is shifting and moving around. It’s scary, but it’s also what I need right now. It’s sort of like graduating high school all over again. Going to the world alone.

Got any tips/advice for someone moving out for the first time? Or sharing your experiences would be fun to hear too :)

Moving out is great! Just remember to always look forward! Don’t sit in your new place being lonely with your memories! Make the most of your new life.

You’re totally right. I agree with your point of view. to make an informed decision about something or have an opinion about a certain topic we must know everything about it.

I agree with you, friendship with the opposite sex is fun. I understand. In general, it is usually go out with a bunch of friends.

The changes are always for the better. Good luck on moving! :) You always have to look forward.

Good luck moving! I have never moved and I guess I don’t really plan to until much later… my parents don’t mind having me around. :)

I would like to continue to a master’s degree after my bachelor’s but that’s still just over a year away! Best of luck with everything. :)

You’re moving out, great! When you do find a job I hope you find a good apartment to buy because renting can be such a hassle.

I don’t really have any advice other than pack your belongings in clearly labeled boxes haha.

Your graduated with your Bachlor’s, that’s so cool. I really can’t wait until I go to college. Well, actually I can because I want to stay young and fresh as long as I can but when the time comes for me to go off to college it would be nice.

Goodluck on moving out and getting your Master’s. I learned something new today! It’s common for people in Finland to go back for their Master’s Degree. I remember when my mom was in school for hers.

I have no advice on moving out but I’m sure it’s a great accomplishment! Now that’s something that I CANNOT wait for. Just a few more years and I’ll be outta there.

Haha I also love gossip, which I put in the same category as drama. Everyone loves it once in awhile.

Congrats on moving out on your own. That seems like a lot of fun. I also just moved out and moved in with my fiance. I do not have a degree yet but am working towards it. I wish you the best of luck. :)

    Congrats on graduating ^_^

Moving out of your parents house is a pretty big step D: I can imagine that being quite scary :/ Good luck though ^_^ I’m sure you’ll be just fine :)

I haven’t moved so I can’t give you any tips xP

    Congratulations! :D

Well I moved out early this year because I have been sent by the Medical faculty to do my 4th year of Medicine in the country. I’m living in a house with 3 other Med students. I personally am loving it.

    From what I’ve experienced so far. If you have housemates discuss rules at the start or you’ll never will. Talk about cleaning and house chores. Be mindful that people have different tolerances for mess. I have a housemate who doesn’t seem to realise she is spilling food everywhere ^^;;

I think that going on to get your masters isn’t as uncommon nowadays than when compared to before. I think its actually preferred all over the world now…given how much the economy sucks and how overpopulation has raised competition in the job markets. It’s great that you are moving out though — even if you say its throwing away money. You won’t be throwing it away if this newfound independence gives you enough strength to someday own your own place! =]

I’ve moved to different apartments every year since I started college. My only advice, depending on how long you intend to live there, is to pack as light as you can and keep everything in compartments. A lot of my stuff doesn’t even need boxes to pack in because I already store them in those plastic storage containers (brain fart, can’t think of what their called) so when I do move all I have to do is tape wrapping tape around the container itself and its good to go. =] Bring decorations for you walls to make you feel at home! Are you going to be living with people? If you are I’d suggest you establish rules with them first thing. I realized that I didn’t really do that with my roommates and it really puts a strain on our living situation. I’ve gotten to the point where they can’t use my pots and pans because they never do dishes. =/

I’m going to an art uni next year and moving out as well. To Oslo, far away from my family. Luckily I’m moving in with three others in a flat. My tip would be, get to know people. Don’t be alone. Really, it’s scary.

  12. Jenn says:

I think moving out is great, good luck! But that would be scary and sad to be alone on a new environment, good thing you have your friend with you and your near from you parents house.

  13. AnneMarie says:

Hiya Shiri! Sorry for my late response to your comment. I haven’t been on the site in ages O.o

Anyways, good luck moving out! I haven’t done so yet, still in high school. So I can’t really give you tips. I wish you the best of luck though (:

  14. Tiffany says:

Congrats on moving you :) It just makes you a stronger and more independent person. Good luck with all your new responsibilities and perhaps getting your masters? :)

  15. Senyth says:

Wow! Congratulastions on graduating! Hopefully, I’ll be able to graduate this coming March! :D It’s not mandatory to proceed with Masters degree, so I guess I’ll stop studying then.

You’ll do fine with your Masters degree, I believe. ^.^

Wow, moving out seems pretty scary. :O Here, we don’t move out of our parents’ house unless the kids get married. XD

I have a friend in UK though and she said it was really difficult especially since she has to find money to pay for the expensive rent. T_T

Congratulations on graduating, I’m a Computer Science graduate too. I’m continuing my Master’s degree while working though I stopped for a year now because I need to save up money for my last year.

Good for you that you can move out of your parent’s place now. Where as I’m still stuck here, I have to financially aid my sister’s college tuition fee (one reason why I cant finish my MS degree too). I have to stay here for a while so they know that I’m not yet leaving them to go my own way.

  17. Minna says:

Sounds absolutely GREAT for you! Good luck on the studies, and I’m SURE you’ll do great on your own, growing a little day by day. And CONGRATULATIONS to lights in life. Makes it worth the ride ;-)

  18. Olivia H. says:

I’m glad you see a light in your life now. Even though is is better buy, you’re not completely throwing money away. I mean you do get shelter and freedom, lol. It’s great that you know how to handle stress.

Moving out for the first time… get a roommate or roommates if possible. It is a lot cheaper than living alone, and you won’t be “alone”.

  19. I can see you’re an expert at your field! I am launching a website soon, and your data is going to be extremely intriguing for me.. Thanks for all your help and wishing you all of the success.
