Rockabilly

Everyone has their own style. People are usually being categorized by how they dress and what taste they have in, for example, music. I do not think I can be categorized to any particular genre or a clique by the way I dress or what type of music I listen to. One day I can wear dark skinny jeans with a black/white stripey t-shirt and black nailpolish, listening to 30 Seconds to Mars and Dream Theater. The next day I can wear two-sizes-too-big jeans with a pink t-shirt on top (and a long sleeved white shirt underneath) listening to Eminem and Taylor Swift.

I consider myself to be a little bit of rock’n roll and then a lot of everything else.

What made me think of these style cliques was listening to a german band called The Baseballs. They’re responsible of one of the greatest cover songs of 2009 – listen: Umbrella (yes, Rihanna’s song!). They’ve completely jazzed it up with the 50’s vibe. The song also reminded me how much I loved Cry Baby, the musical/comedy movie starring Johnny Depp. When “done right”, the rockabilly look is quite intriguing.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?

Oh, I know! I was wondering like.. how many people are probably wondering if their loved one was actually alive and not in a “coma”? That would be horrible to wonder. Hopefully it spreads some light though and some people find out that their loved ones whom they think are in a coma, actually aren’t!

I’m the same way. I listen to all kinds of music and dress all different ways. There’s no way I could be put into a certain genre or clique.

  2. Amanda says:

ahahahah really? I would think a lot of people would have said that, since they are talking to people all over the world! Hmm XD. Hahah thanks (:

haha aww those are such pretty site names! I’ll definitely keep those on my list :D

Hahah that’s so cool how The Baseballs remade the song Umbrella. I gotta look it up (: Hmm I dont think I can put myself in a specific “clique”. I just listen to whatever is catchy and I dress in clothes that look nice (:

  3. Clare says:

Omgah I love how they remade this song! So freaking cool :) I, unfortunately am not a free spirit with my style. I def, fit into the girly-girl, preppy clique haha

  4. Gillan says:

I,myself too doesn’t like to be called a certain stereotype just because i dress with skinny jeans and i have thick fringes.
I love that cover of Umbrella. I think it’s a very cool cover 8)

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?i think it’s Punk Rock or just Rock XD
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”? No,but they definitely belong me to Punk/Emo/Goth :/

I can relate to you.School makes my life seem like it’s everything :/
I know, having a crush brings joy but it could bring sadness too :(

  5. Kate says:

I like how “The Baseballs” remade the song. And its very cool :)

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
    No I don’t.I listen to everything :D

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
    No I don’t :)

  6. Senyth says:

Same here. I don’t think we should be categorized. We all have this personality mix and we like different things at the same time.

I find myself listening more to alternative bands than those of RnB and hiphop, but I listen to them sometimes, if the songs catch my attention.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)? Korean style, I guess. XD I don’t really mind what I wear. Sometimes, I can be girly or sometimes I can wear rock and roll type of clothes. Depends on my mood.
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”? No, I don’t think so. :P

  7. Aimee says:

i’m pretty much like that. i don’t really know what my favorite music or genre or whatever is. it just goes with my mood.. i don’t know, i listen to everything that’s tolerable to my hearing… same with the way i dress. i pretty much wear every style, as long as it’s decent. i don’t stick with one look because it would look stale…

oh well! maybe we’re just versatile :D

  8. Georgina says:

I agree. I think it was really inhumane for that girl to do what she did.

Aww that’s amazing! My idol’s replied quite a few times – it makes me feel really special as well. :)

Most of the music I like is not popular and is old, classic or just rare and unpopular. I don’t really dress such that someone would categorise or stereotype me. But I used to dress up with baggy jeans and band shirts all the time, and accessorise with cuffs and things. I have always been considered a part of the “emo” culture, minus the makeup – because I just don’t like makeup.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
Not really – I’ve either tried all the ones I know of, or don’t think it suits me. :P
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
I probably belong in some grungy sort of clique. At least one can tell from my general look. :/ I’m not too sure; I don’t like categorising people.

  9. Kendra says:

    Thank you!

I’ll have to listen to that band at some point, they sound interesting.

  10. Kersheys says:

Hm. That’s particularly interesting since I’ve always considered my tastes in music extremely hard to … phrase out, so to say. The songs in my library include so many types of music such as movie soundtracks, game audio, classical pieces, rock, “emo”, local songs, opera and anime theme songs. I just find it so varied that I can’t put a name to “what [I] listen to”.

On the other hand, my “dress tastes” aren’t as varied as my friends, ahaha. On almost any day, you’ll find me wearing jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers. I’ve never been one to … “accessorize”.

I guess at this, I’m not really someone you can put into a box and I’d say that that works for everyone. The thing about people is that we’re all unique. On the surface, many seem like they’re exactly alike, maybe even to the point of stereotyping themselves but if we dig deeper, we’ll eventually find something that will extinguish ourselves from the rest.

    And… I think I rambled on. I think I’ll stop now xD

  11. Bea says:

Thank you! I’m glad you like it. :)
I agree with you, sometimes it’s difficult to use Excel, but once you understand the program it’s fun to use.

I agree with you, every person has their own style And I think we should not criticize or classify people by how they dress or for their musical tastes. Each is free to have their tastes. I don’t really dress such that someone would categorise or stereotype me.

I love that cover of Umbrella, I think it’s cool.

Do you have a style / genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)? Yes, I consider myself a rocker.
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”? Maybe

  12. Shannon says:

I’m my own unique person and my style is very unique and versatile. As for music, I listen to practically anything because I enjoy lots of different things.

  13. Aileen says:

Luckily maths is over now :)
I think different styles is a good thing, but when everything gets stereotypical and nasty it’s gone too far.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)? I would love to go full-out emo for a day. That would be fun.
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”? I guess my group of friends is “emo” although only three could really be called emo.

  14. Malin says:

I don’t belong to a clique anymore but I did when I was younger. The music and the fashion style of electronic music ^^. I really liked the style, I had it for many years ;)
I think you should wear whatever you like without being put in a specific group ^^.

  15. Bonnie says:

sometimes when you look at someone and how they dress, it really symbolizes what kinda music they listen to (: almost everytime haha.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
not really a style ): i really listen to everything. they dont influence me much though !

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
um. i belong to the clique called the grade 11 HAHA. i dont really have cliques in my school … at least i dont think so haha (:

  16. Erica says:

Thank you for the message that you left me, it really made me smile. This is a great, thoughtful entry and I’m sort of thinking of writing my own entry on this topic. (If I do, I will link here.)

I really like the song you linked us too! Granted, I never heard the original before but I absolutely love this cover. Although I’m a bit biased because I absolutely adore cover songs. And this one is particularly fun to listen to.

  17. Shane says:

I dress in different ways too :D And I listen to music depending the mood I’m in, so I guess no one can categorize me either :)

  18. Kayt says:

yeah, I know what you mean. I just felt like blogging about it and getting it out.

I’m not a part of a particular clique or anything, I’m friends with people from many different groups. I also don’t have a certain taste of music that I prefer because I listen to it all pretty much

  19. Zoraida says:

I know what you mean, through out my life there were millions of phases of me dressing this way and that way.

I recently grew tired of everything and just put on whatever I want to! I think my style could be considered childishly cute (kind of like Lolita but not.. really, seriously not really).

    I’m a lot happier now! :D

  20. Kenneth says:

Everyone wants to be different and everyone wants to fit in… So yes, I’m somewhere in between.

  21. Tiffany says:

Yeah, I’m a huge movie person! I know about probably hundreds of movies.

Haha yeah Jacob was shirtless for most of the movie! When he took off his shirt for the first time, there was an audible gasp in the crowd lol!

Haha I always thought his nose looked kind of funny, too!

And that’s an awesome Nightmare Before Christmas necklace! I love it.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
I’m a very punk rock/alternative person. I listen to that type of music and I shop at Hot Topic and have lots of studs in my ears so I definitely look like the punk rock type :)

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
Not really. I kinda hang around with mostly everyone :)

  22. MIMING says:

oh my… i agree with you sis! i’m a bit of everything too!:)))) i don’t have a specific genre on how I dress up..:D

  23. Alice says:

That cover is amazing, I think I actually prefer it to the original. I’m not really a fan of this specific genre, but there are always the odd songs that attract me.

I don’t think belong to a specfic clique, dress wise I have a certain style I like, but that is usually based off lots of different styles I see and I mix and match. It’s also based on my body shape, some things I just can’t pull off that I like. But I can also be quite plain and casual when I’m not feeling up to making an effort. Music wise I love all sorts of genres from Operatic Rock to Prog Rock. Some of my favourite bands come from both the prog rock and new romantic era, I enjoy music that is very creative and original and that is not only an expression of their times but also something I can relate to.

  24. Olivia says:

    Cool picture…

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
    - No

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
    - No

  25. Rachel says:

Aw, that sucks that you don’t have Taco Bell in Finland. You are so missing out. D:

Woo, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll is the best style. ;) Good for you. Though I do like lots of different things too.

In terms of clothing style, I love to dress like a rocker. I don’t always dress like that though, just because I’m often too lazy in the morning to actually make an effort to pick out an outfit, so I just throw on a t-shirt and jeans.

In terms of music, I listen to all different kinds, but rock is my favorite, and I don’t like much rap at all.

Cool necklace, by the way. :)

  26. Rachel says:

Wow sorry, in my last comment I definitely replied to a comment to which I had already replied. I’m sorry! This comment is a reply to your most recent comment on my last blog.

Yeah I think I’m the same in a way. :) On some crappy days, I love to dress up just a little bit more to make me feel better about myself. I guess that’s similar to how you like to wear certain jewelry if you’re feeling down.

    Thanks! I like it. <3

  27. Jorja says:

Interesting blog! You’re right, too. A lot of people have a category of music and clothes. :)

My music taste is mainly centered around rock, metal and grunge but I have a few exceptions too! I like some piano music (great for studying. I can’t study in a silent place, but I can hardly listen to anything heavy whilst I do it). XD

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
I like the kind of scruffy, grunge, casual – almost “emo” look.

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
Not really in clothing tastes, I mix and match all sorts of things. :)

And thank you! Change is good.

  28. Gel says:

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
Hmm a style? I usually go for what’s comfortable. That’s pretty much it.

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
Not really. I guess you could consider me as a non-conformist of some sort :)

I like the fact that you’re not into following trends and such and you have your own unique individuality going on :) I’ll be checking out The Baseballs now! Heehee.

  29. Katie says:

Yeah, it was the greatest movie ever. I love the layout too! :)

  30. AnneMarie says:

I really like that necklace you made as well as the striped shirt. :D

My style has always been a pair of skinny jeans and a tee. Or, skinny jeans and a dress. Or well, anything with skinny jeans. I really don’t like flair out pants anymore. :D

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
Hmmm, I wish I had enough money to buy some more clothes to wear layered looks. I mean, I love mixing up outfits but it’s not like I have enough to by accessories and such. :/

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
Uhm, kind of. My clique is kind of brainy and quirky. :P
    ——————————-

Envy and jealousy, apparently aren’t the same thing. Jealousy tends to be more of a bad thing whereas envy is just that want. Well I’m not sure, people have been trying to explain it to tme. I’m just not… really smart with that whole concept.

Aw, don’t worry. I think jealousy is an emotion most people feel. Often, you don’t realize it until you feel it :/ That’s how I was. I was like, I swear I’m not the jealous type, and yet here I am… the jeaolous type. :/

Oh that’s cool. Like a laid back attitude? I can be like that… if I really put my mind to it which is kind of against the whole idea of being laid back.

  31. Tara says:

I have no style because I’m lazy like that. But I do like the “preppy” style because it’s nice and simple. Like sweaters over collared-shirts? Those are love for me.

However, I think if I were to fall in any clique, it’d be the geek/nerd/gamer/otaku one :) I’m a geek/nerd and proud of it! ^_^

  32. Simone says:

I think I have a style/genre that I look up to and sometimes try out, even though it doesn’t always work.

Personally I don’t think I belong to a certain group or “clique” but I think others would say that I do.

“Me” time sounds great, unfortunately I never got around to it. I feel sad/bad/hopeless etc. a lot,, too much in my opinion but things are bound to get better soon enough.

  33. Catherine says:

Ahh I’m so like you! XD I just don’t think I can be categorized. One day I can be in a dress looking all girly, the next I can be in skinny jeans and a jumper. Same with my music; apart from heavy metal and stuff, I can really listen to anything.

I’ll check out your YouTube page ^_^

  34. Minna says:

HAHA! I’m a mess when it comes to style and fashion! I grab everything I find itneresting, beautiful, unique – whatever feels like me, I wear. And I can’t say I’ve ever bothered to follow others, I guess I’m just me ;-)

  35. Aichee says:

Hmn. I don’t have a particular style. I used to dress like a rock chick back in high school but I’ve toned down on the grunginess now. Haha. I’m a little bit of everything :D

  36. Pocci says:

Yeah, medicine is tested on the poor creatures but :/

You can’t define people’s style..I guess I’m a bit preppy when it comes to clothes but I realised it’s not me…but my wardrobe is so not me xD I’m not sure if that makes any sense – probably not.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
I get kind of inspired by Gossip Girl. I love how they have all these layers of accessories and clothes and pull it off. But I prefer simple and relaxed but stylish :P

Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?
No but people at school label our group but we ignore this stuff :P

& Cute necklace! I would check it out but my internet is a prick D:

  37. Carla says:

I don’t feel that I belong to any clique. I’m like you, my style changes with the way I feel when I wake up from the left side of my bed.

I love all kinds of music. If in any way it can inspire me or make me feel…something, it’s going on the iPod.

  38. Nicole says:

I don’t have a particular style, I dress myself with whatever I grab from my closet at that moment. And my taste in music is equally eclectic.
That necklace of yours is really something. But I know you’re really good at crafts and such. ^^

  39. Thao says:

Hey, the music at those links is pretty cool, thanks for sharing!

I’m pretty much a girly girl when it comes down to it and as far as music, I listen to hip hop and anything you can dance to. Maybe I’d be urban?

  40. Tiffany says:

To be honest, I have no idea how to define my style. Sometimes I dress girly, sometimes elegant. I suppose I dress according to my mood and according to the occasion e.g. a party. I also factor in the whether when I dress.

I suppose my style is all over the place ;P
