As stated in a previous post here, one of my hobbies is to collect autographs (see my tutorial here). A couple of days ago I received two new additions to my small, but precious, collection. One remarkable thing is that I got my first ‘female autograph’. I must admit that when it comes to movies I mostly am a “fan” of male actors. When it comes to females I find their work to be very inconsistent, some good some bad. However, one actress, that I have the utmost respect towards, is Kate Winslet. If you have seen her movies.. ok we have all seen Titanic, but have you seen Holy Smoke, Quills, Iris, Finding Neverland, Revolutionary Road… she is one of the greatest actresses out there!
Now about the second autograph. The story goes as follows. About a month ago I was watching Late Night with Conan O’Brien. I was glad to notice that Edward Norton was there as a guest. He has to be one of the most charismatic actors in the world, yet when you see him “being himself”, he comes out as a very reserved, shy and sort of “geeky” man. This of course makes me appreciate his work even more, because in movies that he has done (American History X, Fight Club…) he comes across as the toughest guy you’ve ever met. So there he was sitting on Conan’s couch and talking about this new charity cause he is involved with – The Maasai Marathon. A week went by and I decided to check if Ed had a Twitter account. He does! Only, it was not so much about Ed as it was about the Maasai Marathon. Long story short, I decided to give a noticeable donation to one of the Maasai runners, and got Ed’s autographed and personalised photo from the upcoming movie “Stone”, as a thank you gift.
By the way Ed is one of those celebrities who, as far as I know, do not send out autographs to fans who request them. He likes to keep himself out of the “hollywood thing”. But this was for a good cause, so he had to give in :)

That’s pretty cool! And I’m loving the Ed Norton autograph! I never thought about requesting autographs from people through the mail but I think it will be something I’d think more about doing. I do have some autographs though, from music tours and meeting the bands :)

Congratulations on the two autographs you are adding to your collection. They happen to be from two people that I admire, as well. Have you ever seen The Life of David Gayle w/ Kate in it? It’s a fantastic movie.
I still haven’t written the fan letter / autograph request for the person I have in mind but I have four days off work starting tomorrow so I am going to make it a priority. :)

I imagine this Ed guy is a good actor if he comes off as the shy person being himself but can transform into the one of the toughest in a movie .

I agree with you, Kate Winslet is truly and amazing actress. I think a lot of people connect her with Titanic though, and therefor she might seem like one of those more shallow movie-upon-movie actresses. I love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Brilliant!
I LOVE Ed! Such an awesome actor, I find those actors and actresses who try and separate themselves from the celebrity scene tend to be a lot better at their job!

its not about black and white its about integrity something he lacks. Its about honesty another trait he lacks. He has the great unwashed masses of the US believing that they will all get free healthcare. I have a friend that works at a health organization and the day after this shithole bill passed they were lined up out the door to get their insurance cards. Don’t these idiots know that it will take 4 years of all of us getting taxed out our asses before they are able to fund this. It says this right in the bill that it will take effect in 2014. The bill cannot be repealed , the only thing that can be done is to vote republicans into office that will vote against funding this bill
