Rockabilly

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Everyone has their own style. People are usually being categorized by how they dress and what taste they have in, for example, music. I do not think I can be categorized to any particular genre or a clique by the way I dress or what type of music I listen to. One day I can wear dark skinny jeans with a black/white stripey t-shirt and black nailpolish, listening to 30 Seconds to Mars and Dream Theater. The next day I can wear two-sizes-too-big jeans with a pink t-shirt on top (and a long sleeved white shirt underneath) listening to Eminem and Taylor Swift.

I consider myself to be a little bit of rock’n roll and then a lot of everything else.

What made me think of these style cliques was listening to a german band called The Baseballs. They’re responsible of one of the greatest cover songs of 2009 – listen: Umbrella (yes, Rihanna’s song!). They’ve completely jazzed it up with the 50′s vibe. The song also reminded me how much I loved Cry Baby, the musical/comedy movie starring Johnny Depp. When “done right”, the rockabilly look is quite intriguing.

Do you have a style/genre that you look up to (or would like to try out for one day)?
Do you think you belong to a certain “clique”?

Two new Autographs

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

As stated in a previous post here, one of my hobbies is to collect autographs (see my tutorial here). A couple of days ago I received two new additions to my small, but precious, collection. One remarkable thing is that I got my first ‘female autograph’. I must admit that when it comes to movies I mostly am a “fan” of male actors. When it comes to females I find their work to be very inconsistent, some good some bad. However, one actress, that I have the utmost respect towards, is Kate Winslet. If you have seen her movies.. ok we have all seen Titanic, but have you seen Holy Smoke, Quills, Iris, Finding Neverland, Revolutionary Road… she is one of the greatest actresses out there!

thankskate

Now about the second autograph. The story goes as follows. About a month ago I was watching Late Night with Conan O’Brien. I was glad to notice that Edward Norton was there as a guest. He has to be one of the most charismatic actors in the world, yet when you see him “being himself”, he comes out as a very reserved, shy and sort of “geeky” man. This of course makes me appreciate his work even more, because in movies that he has done (American History X, Fight Club…) he comes across as the toughest guy you’ve ever met. So there he was sitting on Conan’s couch and talking about this new charity cause he is involved with – The Maasai Marathon. A week went by and I decided to check if Ed had a Twitter account. He does! Only, it was not so much about Ed as it was about the Maasai Marathon. Long story short, I decided to give a noticeable donation to one of the Maasai runners, and got Ed’s autographed and personalised photo from the upcoming movie “Stone”, as a thank you gift.

thanksed

By the way Ed is one of those celebrities who, as far as I know, do not send out autographs to fans who request them. He likes to keep himself out of the “hollywood thing”. But this was for a good cause, so he had to give in :)

Snowflakes

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Oh gosh, it’s November already! Time flies when you are having fun. Although this autumn hasn’t been all fun and games. School takes up a lot of my time, or if not time – energy. Most times when I get home from Uni (and don’t go to work or hang out with friends) I do whatever homework I have to do and for the rest of the evening I just sit infront of the TV, watching nonsense. Not very productive.

Last week was a true “movie week” with 3 visits to the movie theather. The new “Fame” movie was sweet. Although I think it was a bit boring at times, but the dancing and singing numbers were top notch. “This Is It” was amazing aswell. There were people crying, clapping and screaming Love You Michael!. “Julie & Julia” was sweet – and it made me hungry.

It has been snowing again. I love snow. Not that I enjoy the cold weather much, but snow makes everything bearable. In my opinion everything that includes the word “snowflake”, is a good thing! I recently even purchased a necklace with a tiny snowflake charm.

“No snowflake ever falls in the wrong place.”

I got two new autographs on the mail today! I’ll make a new post soon, with photos. Any guesses on which two actors sent me their autographs?
